JPO adopts the tenth Edition of the International Classification of the Nice Agreement
The Japan Patent Office adopts the tenth Edition of the International Classification of the Nice Agreement as from January 1, 2012.
The classification in the tenth Edition will be applied to trademark applications to be filed on and after January 1, 2012 while the classification in the ninth Edition will continue to be applied to trademark applications filed prior to January 1, 2012.
The Examination Standards for Similarity of Goods and Services will also become in force on January 1, 2012. Some similarity group codes have been changed under the new Examination Standards.
IPDL (Industrial Property Digital Library) will provide new similarity codes for trademark applications and registered trademarks. Trademark application will be examined according to new similarity group codes after the date of enforcement.
